A successful candidate will have the following:

The Emergency Response WASH Officer is responsible for assessment, design and implementation of the water, sanitation and hygiene component of FH’s emergency and humanitarian response. S/he will co-ordinate with other FH team members and staff, especially logistics, health and livelihoods sectors, to ensure a rapid, proportionate and effective response. S/he will immediate response to WASH issues with simultaneous consideration of longer-term needs and possible scenarios. Depending on the situation, s/he will have to take an active role in technical co-ordination, support and advocacy with national and local WASH clusters and other technical agencies relevant to the sector. This is to be achieved through strengthening integration of water supply, sanitation and hygiene; better prioritization of available resources; strengthening links with other sectors; preparedness and capacity building; better definition of the roles and responsibilities of actors; and the generation, exchange and use of information. ERT members are full-time staff who have other roles within FH’s regular program that are trained and equipped to respond to emergencies. FH can also engage experienced or trained contractors and partners as part of the ERT

  • The Emergency WASH Officer should have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the WASH sector preferably with emergency response operations knowledge.
  • Experience implementing Environmental health/WASH engineering Projects
  • Understanding of Hydrology, hydrogeology, water quality and testing (as needed).
  • Experience in Construction – including supervision.
  • High level of awareness of environmental health issues as applied to emergency settings, with special attention to the needs of women and children
  • BSc. in Water Resource Engineering, Hydraulics, Environmental Health/Engineering, Public Health from a recognized university. Post graduate qualifications is added advantage
  • Three years’ relevant work experiences in WASH activities at community, health institutions and schools both for emergency and development settings.
  • Specialised training in any emergency response and disaster management humanitarian principles and sphere is an added advantage
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Knowledge of local languages is an added advantage.
