Job Description

Main duties

We are seeking to appoint a Project Manager (PM) that will supervise and coordinate a number of different research projects. The position involves a mix of engaging with financial institutions, stakeholders, and policymakers as well as developing research opportunities.

The Project Manager will lead the following initiatives:

Supervision of evaluation: The project manager is expected to lead the implementation of the evaluation of Aceli Africa. Currently, the research project aims to understand the impact of access to credit and technical assistance on agri-SMEs as well as beneficiary livelihoods (i.e. farmers and agri-SME employees).
Communication with partners: The project manager will manage the communication with the partners involved in the project to ensure coordination among the different entities.
Creation of survey instruments: The project manager will work on the creation of the survey instrument using different tools (e.g. SurveyCTO).
Data collection: The project manager will work closely with enumerator firms, Aceli Africa, Dalberg, and financial institutions to ensure the systematic collection of high-quality data for the evaluation. The project manager will supervise the data collection efforts by the enumerator firms and financial institutions as well as obtain data from central banks, credit registries, etc.
Data analysis: The project manager will work closely with the post-doctoral research fellow and PIs to analyse data, both primary data and administrative data collected from financial institutions and governments.
Management: The project manager may be asked to supervise a data manager and/or research assistant. The data manager/research assistant will be working with the project manager on the evaluation implementation and data collection.

Person specification

The successful candidates should have a completed Master’s degree (or equivalent) in economics or other closely related discipline, strong quantitative and data analysis skills, and be able to manage their own areas of responsibility independently without constant direct supervision. Experience in Stata is essential and experience with R and/or Python and/or Matlab is desirable. We are looking for someone with fluency in written and spoken English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills who is able to communicate effectively to different audiences, conveying complex technical information in a clear and accurate manner. This position would be suited to candidates interested in development with a long-term aim to progress to a doctoral program in economics, public policy, and related disciplines.

The Project Manager will make part of the research team and play a central role in working on access to finance for SMEs and Agri-SMEs specifically in developing countries in close partnership with lenders and other stakeholders.
