Job Description
The pediatrician manages and coordinates care for new born and young people. The job holder will be required to offer emergency care, inpatient and outpatient care and support in the hospital.
KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise and mentor Medical Officers, Intern Doctors and other health professionals under him/her.
Train and supervise Intern Doctors.
Plan, coordinate and conduct operational researching his/her area of specialization.
Provide technical and professional advice in his/her area of specialization to the hospital.
Promote observance of the professional codes of conduct and ethics by staff under him/her.
Examines infants, adolescents and young adults to evaluate their growth and development.
Evaluate patients to diagnose injuries, illnesses and developmental problems.
Order, performs and interprets diagnostic tests, such as lab work and x-rays to gather medical information and reach a diagnosis.
Prescribes or administers treatments such as medications, vaccinations, and other therapies.
Gathers and documents patients’ medical histories.
Advises patients and their families on proper diet, exercise and disease prevention and treatment.
Discusses procedures and test results with patients and their families.
Track patients’ conditions over time and adjusts treatments as needed.
Documents diagnoses and medical impressions for record-keeping and billing purposes.
Performs ward rounds to check on patients’ conditions.
Refers patients to pediatric specialists as needed.
Performs any other duties which may be reasonably assigned from time to time.
EDUCATION & WORKING EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery
Masters of medicine in pediatrics and child health.
Hands-on experience, working with a critical care paediatric unit.
Must be registered and licensed with the Medical and Dental Practitioner’s Council.
TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT FOR THE POSITION
Three-year (03) employment Contract; renewable, subject to satisfactory Performance.
