Job Description

The Emergency Livelihoods and Resilience officer will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the livelihood’s emergency response. The Officer will provide support to the technical assistants and will directly supervise volunteers. Under the supervision of the emergency Coordinator and livelihood lead, s/he will ensure that the outreach, assessment, venue arrangements, distribution, monitoring and troubleshooting is implemented in an efficient and smooth manner. This will be a roaster position and deployment will be based on emergency activation.  He/she will be the first responder team deployed by Food for the Hungry (FH) country office to emergency locations for an initial live savings intervention targeting food security and livelihoods. ERT members are full-time staff who have other roles within FH’s regular program that are trained and equipped to respond to emergencies. FH can also engage experienced or trained contractors and partners as part of the ERTThe Emergency WASH Officer should have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the WASH sector preferably with emergency response operations knowledge.

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in implementation of emergency responses related to food security, livelihoods or humanitarian Assistance.
  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and monitoring livelihoods or resilience programs (e.g., cash-for-work, income generation, agricultural/livestock support).
  • Familiarity with both short-term emergency livelihood responses and long-term resilience-building strategies.
  • Livelihoods programming in emergency or post-conflict settings.
  • Resilience-building and recovery initiatives
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, food security, livelihoods, International Relations or related field. Post graduate qualification is an added advantage
  • Understanding of food security, livelihoods or health and development concepts in developing countries,
  • Specialized training in any emergency response and disaster management, humanitarian principles and SPHERE is an added advantage

What you’ll do…

As the Emergency Livelihoods and Resilience Officer, your overall responsibilities will be (JDs Key Result Areas):

  • Facilitate selection, registration and verification of beneficiary HHs to be addressed and submit the list in excel to Emergency Livelihood Project Coordinator.
  • Ensure project information is shared, complaints are managed correctly and feed backs are provided to the complaints, and beneficiary selection is validated by relevant stakeholders.
  • Facilitate implementation of emergency livelihood project in the target locations as per the detail implementation plan in alignment with donor and government requirements,
  • Prepare input distribution plan, facilitate the distribution, collect and document input distribution list and report to Emergency Livelihood Project Coordinator.
  • Facilitate training of agricultural extension agents and roll out of the training to targeted beneficiary together with agriculture office
  • Monitor and collect data of project implementation regularly and report the progress and challenges and lessons learned to the Emergency Livelihood
