JOB DESCRIPTION: LIVE-IN MATRON – BOARDING SECTION
Duty Station: Rukundo Preparatory School, Kabale
Reports to: Head Teacher
Work Arrangement: Live-in / Residential
Start Date: Feb 2026
Role Summary
The Live-in Matron is responsible for caring for boarding learners and ensuring their safety,
health, cleanliness, and discipline. Living within the school, the Matron supports learners in
their daily routines and helps create a safe, orderly, and caring boarding environment.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Care and Supervision of Learners
● Supervise learners during the day and night in the boarding section.
● Ensure learners are safe, well cared for, and properly guided at all times.
● Support learners with personal needs and report serious concerns to the Head
Teacher.
● Maintain good discipline and promote respectful behaviour among learners.
Health, Hygiene, and Cleanliness
● Check learners’ health daily and provide basic first aid when needed.
● Ensure sick learners are taken for medical attention and inform school management.
● Supervise bathing, washing of clothes, bed making, and personal hygiene.
● Ensure dormitories, bathrooms, and surrounding areas are clean and safe.
Daily Boarding Routines
● Ensure learners follow daily schedules including waking up, meals, study time,
prayers, and bedtime.
● Take roll calls and account for all learners in the boarding section.
● Ensure learners eat properly and follow mealtime rules.
Boarding Facilities and Property
● Take care of boarding items such as beds, mattresses, bedding, and other supplies.
● Report damaged or missing items to school management.
● Ensure boarding facilities are used properly and kept in good condition.
Communication and Teamwork
● Work closely with teachers and other staff to support learners’ wellbeing.
● Communicate learner welfare issues to the Head Teacher when necessary.

● Support school activities involving boarding learners.
Qualifications and Experience
● Ability to read and write; formal training is an added advantage.
● Experience working with children in a school, boarding, or home care setting is
preferred.
● Basic knowledge of hygiene, child care, and safety practices.
Personal Qualities
● Caring, patient, and responsible.
● Committed to protecting and safeguarding children
● Trustworthy and respectful.
● Willing to live at the school full time.
● Able to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
● Willing to uphold the core values of Rukundo Preparatory School
● Able to communicate in English (can hear and speak English)
● Does NOT drink alcohol or use any other intoxicating substances
