Job Description
Responsible for feeding and achieving Survival rates and the well-being of the fish to avoid undesirable situation for the fish like, bad water quality, too many birds on the pond, fish gasping at the top of the water, no response to the feed.
KEY DUTIES
- Ensures fish are fed the correct amount and type of feed.
- Collects mortalities and make sure that all feed and mortalities are registered.
- Monitors the feeding behaviour and general health of the fish.
- Ensures the feeding site and equipment are clean, neat and tidy.
- Prepares all appropriate equipment, and feed before the feeding time.
- Checks for fingerling quantity, size and feed type from feeding chart/inventory provided and ensure the feed rations given to the fish is weighed and recorded.
- Reports any case of abnormality for example in colouring, texture, moulds.
- Ensures feed spills and wastage is very minimal.
- Properly clean, dry and correctly store of all equipment, like feed scoops, fish scoops. There should be no equipment left at the ponds except for the bins with feed.
- Ensure all equipment is kept at in the hatchery stores to avoid damage.
- Check for, any holes in Hapas or bird net, problem with the aeration system, missing or damaged to the ponds and report to the supervisor.
- Ensure that the bins with feed are left watertight and storm proof, and you will be responsible for any feed spills due to negligence after your shift.
- Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
- Diploma in Fisheries Management and Technologies.
- Ability to swim and be comfortable on water.
- Ability to solve and do simple math calculations.
- Good Communication skills including reading and writing Skills.
- High self-motivated and working with minimal supervision.
- Hardworking, capable of being involved in farming operations.
- Should be honest.
- Must be able to work in a team environment and interact well with others.
