” And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.”
Mat 4:18-22
The LORD never called any “Idle” person to be part of his central executive, he picked up people who were busy in their industries and called them to follow him. Not every believer is a follower of Jesus. That of course seems little strange but a fact. To follow means ” to move behind in the same path and direction”. The LORD Jesus said ” Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” John 14:12 A follower of Jesus therefore ” is a doer of what Jesus did”. Now, you can not follow someone who has gone nowhere, you can’t also follow someone without a blue print of where the person went.
To be able to follow, copy or imitate Jesus, you ought to have the facts of what he did, why he did it and how he did what he did. If you don’t have a personal biography of Jesus you can’t successfully follow him. What was Jesus up to everyday? If you don’t know then its clear you are far from following him. Following Jesus means you do what you see him do in the word. You speak as he spoke, you heal the sick as he healed the sick, you forgive as he forgave, you pray as he prayed, you copy him. To follow after a man does not mean just to copy his hairstyle, dressing and his tone of speech, to follow a man means to take his values as your values, his passion as your passion. I may not be wearing a long rob like Jesus did but his values are my values.
You cant say you follow Jesus but you don’t know where he was born. To follow Jesus means to pattern your life after him. You cant follow Jesus then say you don’t believe in casting out devils, speaking in tongues or miracles. You can’t say i follow Jesus but i have never won a soul. Following and SAYING ” I am following ” are not the same. Too many folks just make empty statements without definite actions which prove their words.
