” And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads….O LORD, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies!”

The Old Testament Prophets trusted in the covenant so much that they didn’t normalize defeat. Defeat for them meant something was wrong with their relationship with God. The covenant declared in Deut 32:30 ” How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up?” Israel believed in victory and victory only because they had confidence in the covenant. They went to war expecting nothing but victory, and if things turned otherwise they would come to God to question why? Many people are defeated in life and for years but never ask themselves why this evil is upon them. To them, defeat has become normal so much that they are comfortable in a place where there is no comfort. It is sad to hear children of God declare that they have ulcer, diabetes, cancer, or some infirmity, yet they are children of a better covenant. We have heard defeat for too long until we have thought it’s normal to be unwell.
” Thanks be unto God who causeth us to triumph. ” Declares the scriptures. God sets us for nothing but victory and victory only. If ever we fail, we are to know that it is not his purpose. It is the enemy who plans defeat for us and takes advantage of our ignorance to set us up for failure. The bible says , “God is light and in him is no darkness at all*” That means we are guaranteed of success only in God. There is no single time God orchestrates failure for us. He is for us and not against us. He ministers life to us and not death. He is the healer and not the one who makes us sick. He is the good shepherd and not the one who makes us poor and broke. If we walk in his word as we ought to, defeat will be unheard of in our camps.
It is possible to live in health, it is possible to live in peace and prosperity, it is possible to have a happy home where there are no fights, it is possible to never know lack or want, it is possible to live high above and never beneath, it possible to live the glorious life which Christ purchased for us. This is the normal life of a child of God. Being whipped and then having testimonies of deliverance now and then is not God’s will for you. God wants you walking triumphantly always. This is your calling in Christ Jesus
