Inside Golden Insights: Cultivate Spiritual Habits

” And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide…”
Gen 24:63

Becoming a spiritual giant is not a matter of accident. There are steps one can take to see themselves at the top. There are habits that shape one into becoming whatever good or bad they want. The dictionary defines a habit as an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary. Now, the first thing to notice is that behavior patterns are acquired. That means you obtain, learn, and develop them. Many of us have trained ourselves to wake up at certain times of the morning even without an alarm and the same manner we can cultivate spiritual habits and expect to respond spiritually as a matter of reflex.

Our opening scripture shows us Isaac going out to meditate. 1 Timothy 4:15 says ” Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.” In other words, meditation will bring a result of advancement in our lives. If you take meditation on the word as a daily habit, your life will be revolutionized. If you want more peace, meditate on the word. If you find yourself stressed, it’s because you are meditating on the wrong thing, and you may end up with stroke or some other sickness. Meditating on the word, however, releases the power of God. There are more habits you can cultivate. You can set specific times of prayer and fasting. These habits will ultimately shape your character and personality. Cultivate a habit to give, be generous. At first, you may have to do it when you don’t feel like it until it your mind and feelings align to that love act.

A spiritual man is that man who has developed himself in certain spiritual habits, and they have become part of his daily life. Luke 18:1 says, ” And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;” This is something you are to cultivate. Nobody can do this for you. You have to decide to pray and make it a habit.
