Our Mission
UpEnergy builds high impact emissions reducing projects with support from partners who believe in a just energy transition in low-income countries. We do so by providing life-improving clean technologies, from cleaner cooking devices and water filters to electric cooking to local communities across Africa and beyond.

UpEnergy invests in building local capacity to drive the energy transition through in-house expertise in climate finance, monitoring and evaluation, engineering, behavioral science, and technical project development. Our stringent and monitoring regimes build high integrity projects with quantifiable climate benefits and social impacts.

Low-cost, life-improving clean technologies
Designed and created through rigorous field research, testing and user feedback, we identify products that ensure sustained usage, meaningful impact and support energy transition.

Clean Cooking
We provide a range of cleaner cooking technologies that support communities in different stages of their energy transition. We offer on-grid households the opportunity to leapfrog fossil fuels and access ultra-efficient electric cookers that save time and money and run on primarily on carbon free renewable power. We also offer improved, fuel-saving stoves for those households dependent on biomass fuel.
Safe Water
For households and schools, we supply water treatment systems that remove 99.99% of bacteria from dirty water sources that eliminate widespread water borne diseases such as cholera, dysentery, diarrhea. This makes clean, safe drinking water continually available without the need for to harvest local forests to boil water.
Carbon Removal
We develop technology and projects that achieve our goal of global decarbonisation whilst supporting those most vulnerable to climate risks. We have launched Biochar and Afforestation projects in Africa to deliver additional value to those at climate risk.

Whether it’s protecting the local environment, delivering health benefits, or providing financial savings and employment opportunities, our projects sustainably benefit and enable people to live better lives within climate resilient communities.

Livelihoods –  Over 90% of the UpEnergy Team is based on the ground within project countries.  From local manufacturing and distribution to customer support and monitoring teams, we actively create a range of long-term employment opportunities with every new project.

Health – We seek to deliver meaningful health benefits, improving quality of life for end-users from reducing indoor air pollution using electric pressure cookers to removing the risks of contaminated drinking water from households and schools with water filters.

Financial – Our projects reduce fuel needs, lessening the financial burden on families and provide savings that can be repurposed towards other meaningful needs e.g education and health.

Gender – Providing women access to modern energy, such as cleaner cooking can reduce exposure to household air pollution; cut down cooking time and save time to engage in productive economic and educational opportunities.
