Job Description

Department:

  • Computing and Engineering
  • IT and Information Systems

Job Purpose

To deliver high-quality teaching, support research and innovation, and contribute to academic and administrative functions within the School of Technology, Computing & Engineering, particularly in the areas of Computing, Engineering, IT, and Information Systems.

Key Responsibilities

1. Teaching & Learning

  • Deliver lectures, tutorials, and laboratory/practical sessions in assigned courses
  • Develop and review course content in areas such as:
    • Computer Science
    • Software Engineering
    • Information Technology
    • Information Systems
    • Computer Engineering
  • Conduct student assessments (coursework, exams, projects)
  • Supervise undergraduate student projects, internships, and industrial training/Community engagement

2. Research & Innovation

  • Conduct research in computing and technology-related fields
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals and conferences
  • Participate in research grants and collaborative projects
  • Promote innovation and practical application of technology

3. Academic Administration

  • Participate in curriculum development and programme review
  • Attend departmental and school meetings
  • Contribute to quality assurance, accreditation, and academic standards
  • Provide academic guidance and mentorship to students

4. Community & Industry Engagement

  • Participate in community outreach, workshops, and seminars
  • Foster partnerships with industry to enhance practical learning and employability

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in:
    • Computer Science
    • Information Technology
    • Software Engineering
    • Information Systems
    • Computer Engineering or related field
  • Master’s degree (MSc) in a relevant computing or technology discipline (required)

Experience & Skills

  • Teaching experience at a university or tertiary institution (preferred)
  • Strong expertise in at least one of the following:
    • Programming and Software Development
    • Networking and Systems Administration
    • Database Systems and Data Analytics
    • Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics
  • Proficiency in e-learning platforms (e.g., Moodle or similar)
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated research potential

Reporting Line

Reports to the Head of Department and Dean, School of Technology, Computing & Engineering

Employment Terms

Full-time position in accordance with university policies and procedures, and to be based at the main campus in Kungu, Matugga, Nansana, Wakiso.
