About Company
In 2015, partners from the Mbarara University of Science and Technology, the Bugoye Health Center III, and the University of North Carolina came together with a common goal: to support community-based interventions to improve health and well-being of the approximately 50,000 people living in Bugoye Subcounty, a remote region in the Kasese district of Western Uganda.
Situated in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, residents of this region walk up and down the mountainsides throughout their days, at times descending over 1,000 feet to collect water in the valley streams and rivers. Malaria is endemic and poses a significant burden of morbidity and mortality; it is the leading cause of death for children. Adults suffer a range of chronic conditions, most of which go untreated. The majority of the population are farmers and live in poverty.
P-HEALED responds to the needs of the population, with flexible priorities based on the actual problems and unmet needs of the people we strive to serve and support. Our first and continuing projects are centered on reducing childhood morbidity and mortality through iCCM, reducing adult cardiovascular disease through a hypertension clinic, and reducing morbidity and mortality related to Hepatitis B infections.
